Organic farming is a step forward

In 2020 the World Environment Day is dedicated to biodiversity. Looking at agriculture and our daily food production it is crucial to build healthy, equitable, environmentally friendly and resistant food systems which include more biodiversity. The current Covid-19 crisis only reinforces the importance. It also brings forward the need to return to regional economic circles. Relying on local and seasonal products is not only profitable for the environment but also for local economies.

"The World Environment Day reminds us of the urgency to change our agriculture system for the protection of the environment and the preservation of biodiversity. Organic farming is a step forward in the right direction: 35% more birds and 23% more insects are found in organic farmed land thanks to the creation of natural habitats and the absence of chemical and synthetic pesticides." Christoph Simpfendörfer - General Secretary
